As a member of the Personalized Genetic Health (PGH) Business Unit, the Scientific Affairs Manager will join a dynamic and fast-paced team environment focused on bringing personalized medicines to patients with genetic diseases. The candidate will work closely with Marketing, Medical Affairs and Commercial groups to meet the scientific needs of the Personalized Genetic Health division.  This position requires an individual to be equally comfortable in scientific, medical and business environments, with the ability to effectively communicate the needs and expectations of each to the other.  In addition, the individual would collaborate with other product teams and cross-functional departments to achieve corporate and business unit goals.


Core activities/Responsibilities:

  • Reinforce Genzyme’s position as leader in genetic health by strengthening the intellectual ties between the scientific / medical community and Genzyme and by creating an atmosphere of scientific exchange of data, information, and knowledge.
  • Ensure the scientific accuracy of communication materials, including promotional material, oral presentations, posters, abstracts, manuscripts, and monographs.
  • Act as an internal and external resource to support patient diagnosis and management by being knowledgeable about local regulations, methods (diagnostic, genotyping and biomarkers) and availability of testing.
  • Work closely with the commercial team to help build awareness of Genzyme’s products in the medical community, including Genzyme-sponsored Advisory Boards, participation in medical symposia, publication, media events and other activities.
  • Provide professional and responsive customer service, support and training to country Product Managers and sales organizations to help achieve annual goals.
  • Collaborate with PGH Business Unit departments such as Marketing, Medical Affairs, Marketing Research, Patient Advocacy, Competitive Intelligence, Registry, Health Economics, Sales Training, and e-Business groups.
  • Keep abreast of scientific literature relating to the Genzyme’s current and future products.
  • Represent Scientific Affairs in Life Cycle Management teams.

Basic Qualifications:
MBA with PhD, preferably in cell biology, biochemistry, pharmacy, or related area
At least 5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry

  • Must be a highly motivated, professional individual able to work independently and in teams
  • Ability to interact with all levels of medical and clinical personnel

(Associate) Medical Director, Medical Affairs

As a member of the Personalized Genetic Health division, the (Associate) Medical Director will join a dynamic and fast-paced team environment focused on bringing highly personalized medicines to patients with genetic diseases. This highly visible and entrepreneurial role will lead key internal and external medical programs by integrating scientific, clinical, and business priorities as part of the Medical Affairs team. The position will involve interpreting cutting edge science and determining the potential impact of new research on medical thinking and practice, all with the goal of facilitating appropriate care for patients within sustainable health systems to optimize long-term health outcomes.  


Responsibilities:
The candidate will drive the medical affairs strategy, including: guiding the positioning of the disease and available treatments; publication planning, disease registries, advisory boards, training programs, investigator-initiated studies and other specific initiatives involving physicians and scientists. There is an emphasis on teaching, training, and the ability to think critically about the interface between business and clinical issues. 


Required skills/abilities:
  • The candidate must possess superb written and verbal communication skills and will be required to give frequent oral and written presentations to internal and external audiences on the medical and clinical aspects of a given disease or therapy. 
  • A successful candidate must also have the ability to use scientific and clinical data to build conceptual frameworks and disease management strategies. 
  • The candidate will be entrepreneurial and confident, with very strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to successfully lead high-functioning teams within a matrix organizational structure. 
  • The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, and must be well-organized, able to both develop project strategies and execute project details. 
  • Candidates must possess ethical standards of the highest level and have the knowledge and ability to comply with all relevant ethical, regulatory, and legal standards. 
 
Basic qualifications:
MD degree from a top-tier medical school 
Completed residency/fellowship training, with at least 2 years of practice experience
MBA from top-tier business school


Preferred qualifications:
  • Work experience within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry preferred
  • Working knowledge in the areas of epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics/policy, including completion of an MPH degree would be strongly desired
  • Experience in successfully developing peer-reviewed publications is highly valued
  • Ability to interact productively with all levels of business and medical personnel
  • International and cross-cultural experience is preferred

Job Responsibilities:
Lead activities to institutionalize the use of Lean Enterprise techniques within the Corporate Manufacturing/Operations group, to better serve our patients worldwide.  Provide leadership and direction to improve key business processes.  Coordinate process improvement activities across functions, sites and with third-parties.  Train and coach others throughout different areas/functions to use process improvement tools.  Constantly seek, share, and implement best practices. 


Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Provide leadership and direction to business leaders in using process improvement methodology and tools to improve and design key business processes.
  • Assist in developing strategies which support the goals and objectives of Corporate Operations.
  • Lead the review and analysis of business processes to ensure quality, efficiency, and improvement.
  • Work with operations leadership and process teams to uncover and assess process improvement opportunities, establishing links between business strategy needs and improvement initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)

  • Full understanding of Lean Enterprise Transformation concepts including policy deployment, kaizen, lean event lifecycle management, visual controls, and lean leadership.

This position will support Genzyme Biosurgery business development activities. The Business Development Manager will join the Biosurgery Business Unit in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and international environment geared towards strengthening and expanding Genzyme's orthopedic and surgical businesses. You will be a key member of a team focusing on a broad range of business development activities (i.e., market research, valuation, strategic analysis and transaction related activities). 


Major responsibilities: 

  • Analyze potential market opportunities
  • Assist with identification, evaluation, and execution of new business opportunities.
  • Perform financial valuation and strategic analysis of new opportunities. 
  • Perform primary and secondary market research. 
  • Develop and review term sheet proposals, material transfer agreements and other transactional documents. 
  • Represent Biosurgery organization on specific corporate projects. 
  • Interact closely and pro-actively with different parts and levels of our international matrix organization (science, clinical, regulatory, manufacturing, marketing, legal, etc.). 
  • Communicate recommendations to senior management


Basic Qualifications: 
 MBA and BS/BA degree in life sciences, chemistry, business or economics are required, along with 3 years of post-baccalaureate experience in life sciences industry, management consulting, financial services or academic research setting.
